 In his initial formal remarks following the height of the period of crisis in Bangladesh, he stated that India has maintained constant communication with Dhaka authorities for the previous twenty-four hours.

Monday saw Ms. Hasina's resignation following weeks of violent anti-government demonstrations. The head of the nation's army has pledged to call fresh elections and form a temporary administration.

 India has strong historic and financial ties to Bangladesh, with which it shares a 4,096 km (2,545 mi) border. There are concerns that extended hostilities in Bangladesh may affect India, which is thought to have backed Ms.

 Hasina during her 15-year term in spite of her crackdown on dissent and imprisonment of opposition figures. India increased the number of troops stationed near the border with Bangladesh on Monday.

The government maintained "close and regular contact with the Indian community" through its consular posts, according to Mr. Jaishankar, who also stated that the situation was "still evolving" there. 

The minister stated that there are 19,000 Indians in Bangladesh, of whom 9,000 are students, and that the majority of the students left for their native country in July.

 He declared that India was keeping an eye on the state of minorities in the nation. Initiatives by several organizations and groups to guarantee their safety and well-being have been reported. We applaud that, but until peace and order is restored, we will obviously continue to be quite concerned," he stated.

Mr. Jaishankar gave opposition parties a briefing earlier in the day regarding India's reaction to the events in Bangladesh. 

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting to assess the circumstances. Bangladesh, which emerged after a war with Pakistan in 1971, is bordered by five Indian states.

Senior representatives of India's Border Security Force (BSF) reviewed "operational preparedness and tactical placement of BSF in these important border areas" on Monday during their visit to the Bangladesh border in the eastern region of West Bengal, according to a spokesperson.
