Russian missile strike kills 9 in Zelensky's hometown - officials.

There are fears that the death toll will increase further as search efforts continue.

A Russian missile assault on Ukraine's southern city of Kryvyi Rih killed at least nine people and injured 29 others, according to local officials.

According to Ukraine's prosecutor general's office, five children were injured when a residential building was attacked on Wednesday. Previously, four persons were reported missing.

Emergency agencies, police, and volunteers are currently searching through the wreckage. Search dogs have been deployed to the scene.

Russia's defense ministry has not issued a public statement regarding the purported strike on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown.

Mr Zelensky has extended his sympathies to the victims' family and friends.

"Every day and every hour, Russian terror proves that Ukraine - together with its partners - must strengthen [the country's] air defence," he stated.

In a video provided by Ukraine's official emergency service DSNS, an injured woman is seen being transported from the wreckage on a stretcher.

Meanwhile, firemen are battling fires in the region following the impact.
